Biedermeier carver chairs strike a superb balance between elegance and daily use.
They make great desk chairs, accent chairs for hallways and living rooms for the head chairs for a dining table with a Biedermeier carver chair at each end.
Biedermeier carver chairs were hand crafted with an artisan focus on the simplicity, elegance, and functionality of the design incorporating delicious curved arms and sabre legs and rich show wood veneers always in a deep lustrous french polish.

Wood Selection
Swedish Biedermeier furniture was usually made from a birch frame with a choice fine veneer woods on top. Golden birch in flame and tiger stripe grain was the most popular veneer in a honey colour french polish finish but you often see cherry, walnut, mahogany or more rarely maple veneers too. with very striking natural grain patterns.
Frame Construction
The chair frame was carefully cut jointed and glued usually from Birch or sometimes pine with the joints using the traditional mortise and tenon techniques for durability.
The backrest on the Swedish Biedermeier carver chairs was either the classic Napoleon hat curved design with larger 'ears' or the more gustavian looking square back shape with a carved middle rail with a roundel, urn, wreath or other highly carved motif to accent the beautiful lines of the wood veneers.
The legs are almost always a slender canted sabre shape which is both delicate and elegant at the same time and there are often ormolu styled roundels on the top of the leg below the arms.
Upholstery
Swedish Biedermeier carver chairs always feature traditional upholstered padded seats where webbing supports stitched seat pads stuffed with horsehair, wool, or natural fiber. We often add a layer of cortel too if we reupholster to make them even more comfy leaving a perfectly domed seat.
The Swedish Biedermeier carver chairs look great in traditional regency stripes , silks, velvets, brocades and other classic fabric finishes but they also go really well with modern fabrics too.
